November 17, 2006 - Australia growers have voted to retain the 2-percent levy on their wool sales for the next three years.
In addition, 80 percent of respondents voted for the Australia Wool Innovation (AWI) to have more flexibility to address issues affecting growers. This will be useful evidence to allay any government fears that AWI should not be involved with marketing or wool promotion.
AWI Chairman Ian McLachlan indicated that AWI expected to apply 40 percent of the research and development funds to on-farm projects and 60 percent to post-farm projects. Reprinted in part from The Wool Record Weekly
