ALB Board Members Appointed

October 6, 2006 - Secretary of Agriculture Mike Johanns appointed on Thursday four members to the Lamb Promotion, Research and Information Board. All appointees will serve three-year terms beginning Jan. 27, 2007.

The re-appointed members are: Margaret Magruder of Oregon and Florence Cubiburu of California representing producers; Kevin Quam of Colorado representing first-handlers; and Arthur (Chico) H. Denis III of Texas representing feeders.

The 13-member board is composed of six producers, three feeders, one seedstock producer and three first-handlers. The secretary appoints about one-third of all board members each year and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service monitors operations of the board.

"We are pleased that the secretary re-appointed the producer nominations supported by the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI)," said Paul Frischknecht, ASI president.
