September 22, 2006 - Late Wednesday, the U.S. Senate passed the Livestock Mandatory Reporting Act (MPR) by unanimous consent. The bill, passed by the House in September 2005, reauthorizes MPR for five years, until Sept. 30, 2010.
The legislation now goes to the White House for the president?s signature.
?This is a real breakthrough for the sheep industry to restore the mandatory price reporting for lamb as the 109th Congress wraps up. Wholesale lamb-cut reporting has been covering only the domestic portion of the lamb sales for the past year under the voluntary compliance and we have had no retail lamb price quotes,? American Sheep Industry Association President Paul Frischknecht stated.
