President Signs Extension of Wool Trust

August 18, 2006

August 18, 2006 - On Thursday, President Bush signed the bill which includes the extension of the American Wool Trust and accompanying textile-related fabric duty suspensions.

The legislation, to assist domestic wool mills, fabric manufacturers and U.S. wool producers, is best known in the sheep industry for the wool programming that the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) provides on wool product development, quality improvement and wool market expansion. The American Wool Trust will be extended from 2008 to 2010.

"We commend U.S. Rep. Bill Thomas (R-Calif.) and Sens. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Craig Thomas (R-Wyo.) for their leadership in securing this program extension," commented Peter Orwick, executive director for ASI.
