USDA Designates Disaster Area

August 11, 2006

August 11, 2006 - This week the U.S. Department of Agriculture designated counties in Colorado, South Dakota and Texas as primary agricultural disaster areas.

The designations were announced due to heat, high winds, ongoing drought, a late spring killing frost, insect damage and prairie fires.

Qualified farmer operators in these areas are eligible for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency and have eight months from the date of declaration to apply for loans to help cover part of their actual losses.

A map indicating the designated counties can be accessed at: https://disasterhelp.gov/portal/jhtml/usda/usdamap.jhtml.
