American Wool Trust Extended

August 4, 2006

August 4, 2006 - The American Wool Trust and accompanying textile related fabric duty suspension has been extended for two years in legislation recently approved by the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.

The legislation, to assist domestic wool mills, fabric manufacturers and U.S. wool production is best known in the sheep industry for the wool programming that the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) provides on wool product development, quality improvement and wool market expansion. The American Wool Trust will be extended from 2008 to 2010.

Peter Orwick, executive director of ASI stated, "Sheep producers will continue to expand wool markets, domestic and international, and develop new applications for wool textiles for military and commercial use through support of this legislation."

We commend U.S. Rep. Bill Thomas (R-Calif.) and Sens. Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and Craig Thomas (R-Wyo.) for their leadership in securing this program extension."
