July 21, 2006
July 21, 2006 - Since last Friday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has designated counties in Arkansas, Colorado, Nebraska, New York, Oregon and Texas as primary agricultural disaster areas.
The designations were announced due to losses caused by excessive rainfall, high winds, tornadoes, lightening, hail, freezing, high temperatures, ongoing drought and fire.
Qualified farmer operators in these areas are eligible for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency and have eight months from the date of declaration to apply for loans to help cover part of their actual losses.
