August 29, 2008 - The American Sheep and Goat Center (ASGC) announced a huge response to its invitation to submit grant applications for 2008. By the Aug. 1, 2008, deadline, a total of 38 applications were received with requests of over $6 million, including matching funds.
The 2008 invitation to submit applications stipulated that the ASGC would be awarding up to $200,000 in grant funds for projects that would be of benefit to the sheep industry. Projects from both the private and public sectors were received. The board has announced that it will be reviewing the applications and making funding decisions in late September. Applicants will be notified as soon as practical after decisions have been made.
This round of grants is another in a continuing grant program from the ASGC to assist the sheep and goat industries nationwide. The ASGC board realizes that there is a need for this program and will be concentrating on making more grants available in the near future.
