Ag Disaster Counties Designated

June 23, 2006

June 23, 2006 - The U.S. Department of Agriculture designated counties in California and Texas as primary agricultural disaster areas.

The designations were announced due to a number of acts which include but are not limited to: unprecedented rain, hail, high winds, tornado, drought and severe weather conditions.

Qualified farmer operators in these counties are eligible for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency and have eight months from the date of declaration to apply for loans to help cover part of their actual losses.

A map indicating the designated counties can be accessed at: http://disaster.fsa.usda.gov/fsa.asp.
