Revised Sheep Care Guide Available

March 17, 2006 -- Improvements have been made to the original edition of the American Sheep Industry Association?s (ASI) Sheep Care Guide.

The guide was developed to serve as a reference for the sheep producer using a variety of management and production systems and has been written in recognition of an ethical responsibility for the humane care of sheep. This educational document is not only intended for sheep producers, but also can be used by allied industries and others who are interested in the U.S. sheep industry?s animal-welfare and well-being recommendations.

The 1996 edition of the Sheep Care Guide underwent a complete top-to-bottom review by a task force from the Federated Animal Science Society and although the industry?s major sheep-care principles remain the same, some components have been further enhanced.

Components of the Sheep Care Guide are also utilized within ASI?s Sheep Safety and Quality Assurance Program.
