New Tool Making for Quicker Fencing Repairs
Jan. 2004 -- Making repairs and pulling up slack in any type of wire fence is now easier thanks to the model 415 GoldenRod? Hired Hand fence stretcher-splicer, reports its maker, the Dutton-Lainson Co.

The 415 Hired Hand features two stationary hooks ? one at either end of the bar, and one traveling hook. The stationary hook allows the traveling hook to be reset without repositioning the fence stretcher. The traveling hook can be released and moved, opening the area where the splice is to be made. The Hired Hand allows for a continuous clamping motion to bring the wire up tight, and is ideal for quickly tightening slack greater than two feet in the wire.

GoldenRod Hired Hand fence stretchers-splicers are sold through hardware and farm supply stores and catalogs. Or visit Web site www.dutton-lainson.com or call Dutton-Lainson at (402) 462-4141.

Hobart Introduces Faster Plasma Arc Cutter
Jan. 2004 -- Hobart Welders recently introduced a new air plasma arc cutting machine -- the Air Force? 625.

The 60-pound unit produces outstanding cut quality when cutting at a rate of 10 inches per minute (IPM) on ?-inch steel using a hand-held torch, reports Hobart.

It can sever steel up to 7/8-inch thick and slices through thinner metals at rates of ?-inch steel at more than 60 IPM and 1/8-inch steel at 200 IPM.

The Air Force 625 features Wind Tunnel Technology?, which helps prevent abrasive dust and metal particles from damaging internal components. The Fan-On-Demand? function reduces the amount of airborne material pulled through the unit by turning on the cooling fan only when needed.

New Holland Introduces Tractor Auto-Steering Capability
Jan. 2004 -- More precision. More cost savings. More crop yield. That?s the productivity potential story behind the new fully integrated, GPS-based precision automated steering system now available for New Holland TJ and TG Series tractors.

Although the automated steering system isn?t totally hands-free (the operator must still make end-row turns), it eliminates the need to steer when the tractor is being operated in straight lines in open fields. The automated steering system eliminates human error, such as overlapping and skipping, which can lead to under or over application of pesticides, fertilizers and seed.
