Convention Update

December 30, 2005 -- The deadline for discounted registration for the 2006 American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) Annual Convention, Jan. 26-28, 2006, in Mesa, Ariz., is quickly approaching and ASI members are urged to register this week to take advantage of the savings.

For the third consecutive year, ASI will be meeting jointly with the National Lamb Feeders Association and hosting multiple industry organizations at the convention. Also gathering in Mesa in January will be the American Lamb Board, the National Sheep Industry Improvement Center and the Western Range Association along with ASI Women and those involved in the Make It Yourself With Wool National Competition.

To take advantage of the discounted price, registration forms must be postmarked no later than Jan. 9, 2006.

We anticipate a very successful convention in Mesa and look forward to meaningful industry discussions. Some of the areas to be covered during the meeting include:

• animal identification with thoughts from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Australian Cooperative Research Centre and the National Cattlemen?s Beef Association;
• the upcoming Farm Bill;
• water issues as they relate to the sheep industry being presented by water specialists Bob Trout and William Myers, III;
• Karen Launchbaugh, Ph.D., detailing the prescribed grazing project currently under development; and
• author of ?Gardeners of Eden,? Dan Dagget, discussing land restoration utilizing livestock.
