A$ Gains on US$ and Yen

December 16, 2005 -- The Australian dollar (A$) rose to a five-week high against the U.S. dollar (US$) on Monday, to more than US$0.75, as metal prices reached fresh highs and the US$ weakened. This is the highest the A$ has been since late October and an improvement on the one-year lows of US$0.72.6 hit during mid November, when the markets were focused on the rising U.S. interest rates.
