Shearing Shortage Cause Delays in AU
October 21, 2005
October 21, 2005 -- According to ABC Australia, sheep grazers across Australia are still watching their calendars and waiting for shearing teams to turn up.
The lack of people getting into the industry means there are not enough shearers to go around and that is causing long delays.
In Western Australia, farmer David Vandenburghe had to wait almost a month for a shearing team to arrive, holding up harvest preparations and spray topping.
"For half of the shearing time we were running one short and actually one of the pressers was virtually full-time shearing," he said. "It just means the contractor basically hasn't been able to run with full teams."
