FDA Set to Endorse Cloned Food

October 14, 2005

October 14, 2005 -- The cloning of barnyard animals has become commonplace and mechanized for ViaGen, Inc., in Texas. In fact, they say they are more than ready to efficiently produce juicier steaks and tastier chops through cloning; however, they are voluntarily withholding their products pending a ruling from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The FDA is expected to soon endorse the findings of a 2002 National Academy of Science report that found food products derived from cloned animals do not "present a food safety concern." Although ViaGen may receive an endorsement from the FDA, a survey conducted in March by the International Food Information Council reported that 63 percent of consumers would likely not buy food from cloned animals, even if the FDA determined the producers were safe.
