World?s Largest Carpet to be Weaved

October 7, 2005 -- An Iranian firm will weave the world?s largest handmade carpet, which when finished is expected to stretch 61,354 square feet and weigh 45 tons.
More than 1,000 Iranian weavers are to toil for a period of two years on the carpet, which will be made with 30 tons of wool and 15 tons of cotton.
It will be made up of 15 large pieces that will be later stitched together by hand to form the carpet that will cover the floor of the central praying area of a mosque.
