September 16, 2005 -- The cost-share ram genotyping program has been continued an additional year, through Sept. 15, 2006! Producers in all states will once again have the opportunity to participate in this testing program being administered by the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS).
The program is designed to assist producers, who are interested, in having their rams genotyped for scrapie resistance and susceptibility. The cost-share provides an opportunity to receive $14-per-ram tested. Just like with the ASI/APHIS cooperative program last year, producers can have up to ten rams tested.
Opportunities for ram genotype testing are also available through many state/APHIS cooperative programs. Producers in those states can participate in either program.
For complete details on the ASI/APHIS genotyping program, along with a list of the approved labs, log on to the ASI Web site at: www.sheepusa.org and click on the "Ram Genotyping" link.
