Forest Service Clarifies Grazing Permit Policy

August 19, 2005 -- The Federal Register notice requesting public comment on the interim directives (IDs) to the Forest Service Handbook was published today. These IDs provide for clarification and adjustment in grazing policy as deemed necessary to respond to the changing needs of both the Forest Service and the livestock industry.
Handbook chapters 10 and 20 are addressed in the IDs and apply to the issuance and administration of term grazing permits and grazing agreements, respectively.
The IDs were effective Aug. 16, 2005. Comments on the interim directive and the proposed directives must be received in writing by Dec. 19, 2005, to be considered.
