Sheep Milk Provision Added

August 19, 2005 -- In a Federal Register published this week, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) published a final notice entitled, ?Milk for Manufacturing Purposes and Its Production and Processing? which will now provide provisions for sheep milk.
The Dairy Division of the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture passed a resolution in July 2003 for USDA to provide such direction for sheep milk. Also receiving support for the change from industry, AMS reviewed the resolution and developed a draft that identified the changes associated with this request. The draft was provided to state regulatory officials for informal discussion prior to publication in the Federal Register.
This notice was published with a 60-day comment period to provide a sufficient time for interested persons to comment on the changes.
Comments must be submitted on or before Oct. 17, 2005, to be considered. Complete directions for submitting comments can be located in the Federal Register at:
