Ram Genotyping: All States ? All Producers Eligible

August 12, 2005

August 12, 2005 -- All producers in all states now have the opportunity to participate in the cost-share genotyping program being administered by the American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Agriculture?s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). The program has been opened up to producers in all states who wish to test their rams for scrapie resistance and susceptibility. However, the deadline to submit for reimbursement is quickly approaching; all requests must be postmarked by Sept. 15, 2005.
Cost-share opportunities for genotype testing are also available through many state/APHIS cooperative programs. Producers in those states can submit for a reimbursement at either the state level or through the ASI program.
The ASI/APHIS cost-share program provides producers an opportunity to test up to ten rams and receive $12 per ram tested. The funds will be disbursed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Act soon to take advantage of the program.
For complete details on the ASI/APHIS genotyping program, log on to the ASI Web site at: www.sheepusa.org and click on the ?Ram Genotyping? link.
