July 15, 2005 -- Tour de France officials modified the start of Tuesday?s race to head off farmers who planned to block the riders to protest wolf attacks on their sheep and cows.
The tenth stage of the race started 11.5 kilometers away, after being held up for a few minutes to allow farmers to demonstrate.
Initially, farmers had planned to block the race along the route to protest attacks on the herds by wolves in the Alps, race organizers said.
