Two ID Bills Introduced
March 18, 2005
Rep. Collin Peterson (D-MN) introduced two animal identification bills to Congress this week.
The first would require the establishment of an electronic nationwide livestock identification system within 90 days of enactment and would promote an objective review of U.S. Department of Agriculture responses to livestock disease outbreaks. The second would limit the disclosure of certain animal identification information and exempt certain information from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act.
Both bills have been referred to committees.
