Small Slaughterhouse Gets Approval
March 18, 2005
The Winnebago County Board approved a resolution last week giving Mahmood Naseeruddin permission to run a small-scale slaughterhouse to supply lamb and chicken meat to Muslims in Illinois.
The slaughtering will follow Muslim law by not using machinery and would be preceded by a prayer.
Naseeruddin said he will kill about 50 lambs a week and possibly an un-determined amount of chickens, to distribute to Muslims in the county and other parts of Illinois.
The permit will be valid for five years at which time the county board will review the business.
