This week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture designated counties in California, Georgia, Idaho, New York and Texas as primary agricultural disaster areas.
The designations were announced due to a number of acts which include but are not limited to: tropical storms, hurricanes, drought, rain, hail, floods, freezing and insect damage.
Qualified farmer operators in these counties are eligible for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency and have eight months from the date of declaration to apply for loans to help cover part of their actual losses.
