December 10, 2004

December 10, 2004 -- Scottish processor Hall?s, one of the world?s biggest producers of haggis, is launching a Scotland-wide competition to find the best pub haggis, neeps (turnips) and tatties (potatoes) in the country.

For those who do not know what haggis is, the dictionary defines it as: a traditionally Scottish dish that consists of the heart, liver, and lungs of a sheep or a calf minced with suet, onions, oatmeal, and seasonings boiled in the stomach of the animal.

Judged by celebrity chef Nick Nairn, the team will travel the length and breadth of the country to find the best examples of the national dish in time to crown the winner before Burns Day on Jan. 25, 2005.
