December 3, 2005 -- On Thursday morning, President Bush named Mike Johanns as his choice for U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Johanns will replace outgoing Secretary of Agriculture Ann M. Veneman.

Johanns is currently serving his second term as Governor of the State of Nebraska.

"The President selected an outstanding leader today who has a distinguished career in public service and a clear understanding of agriculture and farm policies," stated Veneman. "Governor Johanns brings tremendous strength to this position and will serve the President, this Department and American agriculture well during the next four years."
