T.V. Sheep Show Predicted to be Anything but "Baaad"

November 19, 2004

November 12, 2004 -- They sing. They dance. They walk. They talk. They bicker. They bond. Oh, and they just happen to be wooly. Meet "The Baas," a family of multi-racial sheep predicted to become the next big thing in British children?s television.

The funny family includes Costas, a Greek, ? who is married to Baalwen, a black Welsh mountain sheep ? who lives with their daughter Meegan, and her twins, Jaason and Meedea ? together with Meegan?s partner ? Meelvyn ? in an extended home ? high on a Welsh hillside.

"The Baas have three generations living together and they are from different ethnic backgrounds, which is important," said TV producer Nia Ceidiog in a News Wales interview.

"The secret of a series like this is that you can enjoy it on a number of different levels," added Ceidiog. "It?s important that there are a lot of references hidden in the story and it?s only when you?re watching it for the sixth time that the penny drops."

Sure to generate a lot of laughs is Costas, the head of the family, and a recycling agent who brings home items discarded by other people and turns them into weird (and occasionally wonderful) gadgets and gizmos.
