To Be So Honored

September 3, 2004

September 3, 2004 -- ?Honored special guests? in Kazakhstan are presented with the head of a freshly cooked lamb, an ancient custom throughout Asia and still practiced today. The head is placed in front of the ?most honored guest,? who removes different parts of the lamb?s head in a symbolic ceremony honoring the host and the host?s family. To be presented with the lamb?s head is considered a supreme compliment.

This is just one of the many things children can learn from a new book designed to celebrate the diverse cultures of the world. The book, WORLD KIDS COOKOUT Celebrates Cultures in a Global Treasure Trove of Festive Recipes, hopes to be a means for cultural exchange.
