ALB Appointments Announced

August 20, 2004-- On Wednesday, Agriculture Secretary Ann M. Veneman announced four appointments to the Lamb Promotion, Research and Information Board, also known as the American Lamb Board (ALB).

Newly appointed to producer positions on the board are Sandy Snider of Wyoming, representing producers with less than 100 head of sheep, and Lorin Moench, Jr., from Utah, representing producers who own more than 500 head of sheep. Teddie Crippen of Oregon and L. Spencer Rule of Colorado were reappointed to the board for additional three-year terms representing first handlers and feeders, respectively.

From Powell, Wyo., sheep producer Snider raises purebred Hampshire and Dorset sheep. She holds the position of regional vice-president of the Wyoming Woolgrowers Association (WWGA) and is co-manager of the WWGA and Mountain States Lamb and Wool Cooperative?s ram test.

Moench, a life-long sheep producer, runs about 9,000 ewes on a range operation in Utah, which encompasses private land as well as permits to graze on federal land. He stays current with industry issues by participating in sheep organizations at both the state and national levels.

Returning board member Crippen, with Superior Farms, contributes her many years of processor experience and marketing knowledge to the success of the ALB. The reappointment of Rule, who currently serves as board chairman in 2004, provides an opportunity for him to lend his leadership to the industry for another three years.

The ALB is a 13-member board comprised of six producers, three feeders, one seedstock producer and three first handlers, appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture, to administer the activities of the American lamb industry funded program initiated in 2002.
