June 25, 2004 -- The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported this week that one of Queensland?s most famous wool properties will sell off its last 6,000 head of sheep, marking the end of an era.
The Consolidated Pastoral Co. held a dispersal sale of Isis Downs stud stock this week. Iris Downs had been a large-scale sheep enterprise since the late 1800?s.
Many regional woolgrowers are turning to beef cattle for numerous reasons including an inconsistent wool market, labor challenges and depredation by dogs.
