Mexico Sheep Trade Update

May 21, 2004

May 21, 2004 -- North American harmonization of animal-health with regard to sheep and sheep products continues to be a high priority of the American Sheep Industry Association. As these regulations are harmonized, there will be enhanced opportunities for trade.

For several weeks, some lamb products have not been exported to Mexico -- the U.S. sheep industry?s largest export market, although negotiations have been under discussion. This week, agreements on some lamb products were reached and clarified regulations placed into effect.
