April 30, 2004 -- A sheep catapulted to fame last week due to his unbelievably long locks was in the spotlight for the second time in as many weeks when he was shorn on live TV.
?Shrek,? the sheep that eluded capture on New Zealand?s south island for more than six years, underwent the shearer?s blade during a live half-hour news program on TV New Zealand.
Two top shearers, David Fagan and Peter Casserley, clipped Shrek with scissors to ensure that an adequate layer of wool remained for protection against the oncoming winter.
Shrek?s fleece weighed 72.5 lbs. and will be auctioned off for children?s medical charities.
?Before? and ?after? pictures of Shrek can be accessed at
Shrek on the World Wide Web.
