Status Review of the Greater Sage-grouse

April 23, 2004

April 23, 2004 -- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has determined that substantial biological information exists to warrant a more in-depth examination of the status of the Greater Sage-grouse. The Federal Register announcing the 90-day finding for petitions to list the Sage-grouse as threatened or endangered was posted on Wednesday, April 21, 2004.

To ensure a comprehensive status review, information is being solicited from State and Federal agencies as well as all interested parties regarding the grouse and its sagebrush habitat. This is the first step in a long process that triggers a more thorough review of all biological information available.

Anyone interested in offering pertinent information concerning the status of or the threats to this species has until June 21, 2004, to submit comments for consideration. For information on submitting comments refer to the Federal Register, which can be accessed at: Sage-grouse on the World Wide Web.
