Feb. 13, 2004 -- Dr. Ron DeHaven, deputy administrator for Veterinary Services at the U.S. Department of Agriculture?s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), announced during an early-week teleconference that the epidemiological investigation into the single case of BSE found in the state of Washington in December 2003 is now complete.
With the field investigation complete, the department is now in the process of reviewing the recommendations made to USDA by the panel of international experts. This panel commended U.S. officials for their prompt actions during this investigation while proposing additional measures to ensure the safety of the nation?s food and agricultural industries.
