Publication of Revised National Weekly Slaughter Sheep Report
March 10, 2017

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Marketing Service proposed improvements to the National Weekly Slaughter Sheep Review by suppressing the volume of formula trades and adding a comprehensive value section.

At the time of this newsletter, AMS is expected to publish the newly formatted report today, March 10. It is anticipated that the report will include negotiated lamb purchases, formula lamb purchases and new comprehensive lamb values.

A complete picture of weekly lamb prices has generally not been available for more than a year; therefore, livestock mandatory reporting of lamb has been handicapped.

The changes that AMS is expected to make is a step in the right direction. ASI and other sheep stakeholders are working with AMS on additional changes.

Over the next couple weeks, the ASI Market App will also be recoded to capture this new information.
