Senate H-2A Dear Colleague Letter Open for Signature - Tight Deadline
July 8, 2016

The offices of Sens. Thom Tillis (N.C.) and Maria Cantwell (Wash.) are spearheading a Dear Colleague letter expressing their concern over the unacceptable delays in the timely processing of applications and visa petitions for the H-2A agricultural and non-agricultural seasonal worker programs.

"This is a positive effort for state sheep associations to request that their senators sign on to," said American Sheep Industry Association Executive Director Peter Orwick. "The sheep industry continues to struggle to get paperwork approved by the federal agencies and have men on the job in a timely manner. It might be helpful to share with your senate offices that more than one-third of America's sheep are herded by H-2A workers, so this is a critical issue for the sheep industry."

Senate offices interested in signing on to this effort can contact Courtney Temple at courtney_temple@tillis.senate.gov or Will Hazzard at william_hazzard@cantwell.senate.gov for more information. Signatures are requested by July 13.
