Global Responsible Wool Standard In Development
February 26, 2016

Textile Exchange, a global nonprofit organization that works to make the textile industry more sustainable, has released its first draft of the Responsible Wool Standard, which is intended to be a global benchmark for animal welfare and land management practices in sheep farming. The goals of the standard are to provide the industry with the best possible tool to recognize the best practices of farmers around the globe and ensure wool comes from sheep treated responsibly and from farms with a progressive approach to managing their land.

A primary mission of Textile Exchange is to identify and share best practices regarding farming, materials and processing to reduce the impact on the world's water, soil, air and human population. Board members are retailers, apparel manufacturers and other textile related companies.

The American Sheep Industry Association will continue to monitor this initiative.
