Trump Picks Montana Representative to Lead Department of Interior
December 16, 2016

This week, President-elect Donald Trump announced his selection of Representative Ryan Zinke (Mont.) as Secretary of the Interior. Zinke, a second term Representative and former Navy SEAL commander, has been a strong proponent of multiple-use on federal lands and a supporter of American Sheep Industry Association affiliate, the Montana Wool Growers Association. The Department of the Interior holds jurisdiction over a number of issues of importance for the sheep industry, including the Endangered Species Act, sage grouse management, BLM permitting and allotments, and can play an immense role in ensuring sound-science is considered before removing domestic sheep allotments in preference to bighorn sheep habitat. Now is a critical time for strong leadership at Interior and ASI believes Zinke will provide that leadership, balancing the varied interests in our nation's public lands. ASI congratulates Zinke on his nomination and urges the Senate to act swiftly in approving Zinke's nomination.

ASI and the Montana Wool Growers invited Congressman Zinke to speak at the upcoming Sheep Industry Convention, January 25-28 in Denver.
