Solicitation for Wool Military Blankets

April 29, 2016

The Defense Logistics Agency has issued a solicitation for the purchase of wool military blankets. This is a one-year contract with the possibility of an additional one-year agreement.

The order is for a minimum of 39,214 blankets and a maximum of 67,968 blankets. A finished wool blanket weighs 3 pounds, 12 ounces; therefore, it will take approximately 176,000 to 300,000 pounds of clean American wool to produce the blankets needed to satisfy this contract. Fulfillment of the solicitation will be made using army blanket-type wools, which are usually an average of 26-28 microns, although they could be finer.

This blanket order is different from past orders in that it supports the Afghan military and police. Additionally, it is a somewhat larger order.

The solicitation was published April 21 with bids due on or before May 5. The contract award is expected in early June.
