House Subcommittee Marks-up Appropriations Bill

The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies, this week, marked up and approved the fiscal year 2017 Agriculture Appropriations Bill.

Sheep industry priorities that are included in this bill include funding for the eradication of scrapie, financing for the activities of the Wildlife Services Agency and continued research dollars for the U.S. Sheep Experiment Station. The legislation also includes funding for the Market Access Program and the Foreign Market Development program facilitated by the Foreign Agricultural Service and utilized by the American Sheep Industry Association.

"Please continue contacting your House members, especially members of the appropriations committee, to ask for support in funding these issues that are important to the sheep industry," commented ASI Executive Director Peter Orwick.

The House Appropriations Committee is scheduled to mark up the bill next week.
