US-Canada COOL Hearing Set for February
January 31, 2014

According to meatingplace.com, February will be the month when the World Trade Organization (WTO) will hear a complaint from Canada against U.S. country-of-origin labeling (COOL) rules.

The WTO has scheduled a date of Feb. 19.

According to meatingplace, "Canada is calling into question Washington's new COOL rules, which it contends are more restrictive and harmful to Canadian beef cattle and pigs imported into the United States than an earlier version of the legislation that was found to violate WTO rules."

They report that third parties in the dispute include Mexico, Brazil, China, the European Union, India, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Columbia and Guatemala.
