2nd World Ovinpiades Scheduled
February 21, 2014

France will be hosting the 2nd World Ovinpiades on Sept. 28 - Oct. 4. The United States is one of 20 countries being invited to participate in this two-day competition where contenders will challenge each other in multiple areas.
The world challenge is open to college students between the ages of 19 and 25 years old. Areas of competition include recognizing sheep breeds, sorting ewes, foot trimming, body condition of ewes and lambs, ewe manipulation, operating a 4-wheeler with a trailer and sheep shearing.
In addition to the competition, participants will have the opportunity to meet with other young shepherds from around the world, participate in farm visits and explore the region.
The American Sheep Industry Association's (ASI) Emerging Entrepreneur Committee has been asked to work with this project. Provided funding is available, an application process to select potential competitors for this competition will soon be made available. Contributions to support two young shepherds to this event are welcome and can be forwarded to ASI at 9785 Maroon Circle, Suite 360, Englewood, Colo. 80112.
Lacie Hoffman (S.D.) and Kelsey Gibbs (Mont.) represented the United States in the first World Ovinpiades that took place in New Zealand in 2011.
