The Honorable Thad Cochran
Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition & Forestry
328-A Russell Office Bldg.
Washington, D.C.  20510

Dear Chairman Cochran:

The American Sheep Industry Association (ASI) strongly supports re-authorization of the Mandatory Price Reporting (MPR) Act for livestock.  We support the Agriculture Committee's efforts to re-authorize the USDA reporting system prior to the sunset provision this fall.

Our industry is generally pleased with the system today and extension for even one-year would be preferable to loss of the Department's ability to collect the prices for lamb and lamb meat.

USDA has incorporated changes in MPR for our industry since the launch in April of 2001 and in fact we have an additional regulatory change to be published this summer.

Please count on our association for support in any manner we can assist the Committee with this important legislative action this Congress.
